Storyteller Visit

Storyteller Visit October 2019

On Friday 25th October we were excited to welcome John Kirk, a professional storyteller to TPA to work with the children in our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes.  The visit enabled us to continue to work on our whole school theme of Never Ending Story and to think about our Global Problem of ‘What we can learn from stories to make the world a better place’.

The visit set off to an exciting start with John taking an assembly for the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children where he introduced the story of Anansi the Spider.  The children then helped John to act out and tell a number of stories from around the world such as ‘Stone Soup’, ‘As much as Salt’ and ‘The Proud Turtle.  These folk tales enabled the children to explore the themes of sharing, love and forgiveness, boastfulness and modesty.

The Nursery Children also had chance to meet Jon and learn about the story on Anansi, as well as singing together some of our favourite songs and rhymes such as ‘Incey Wincey Spider’ and ‘If you’re happy and you know it…’

The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning of storytelling and were excited to take home their new book to share at home with their family.
