At Tangmere Primary Academy, hot school meals are provided by Chartwells. Children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 are automatically entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals and are entitled to a free school meal every day. Families can choose each day whether they wish to have the hot meal provided on this day or bring a packed lunch.
Children in Years 3 - 6 may also be eligible for Free School Meals for a number of reasons (see information below). Families of children in Years 3 - 6 that are not eligible for free school meals, are welcome to purchase hot meals for their child.
If you wish to provide a packed lunch for your child, please ensure that this is a balanced meal – sweets and chocolate are discouraged. Please provide a drink or juice or water every day. No fizzy drinks or glass bottles are permitted in packed lunches.
The Chartwells weekly lunch menus and online ordering system can be found online
and there is a guidance document available for the website at the bottom of the page.
Free School Meals
From 1 April 2018, free school meals in all West Sussex academies are available to pupils in receipt of, or whose parents are in receipt of, one or more of the following benefits:
Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guaranteed element of state Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you're not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
If you are eligible for benefits-related free school meals in accordance with the above criteria, and your child is also receiving Universal Infant Free School Meals, please continue to register. This will enable your child's school to claim valuable 'pupil premium' funding.
