TTB Designers
As Designers we are using our imaginations to design, solve problems and make products.
At TPA, our Time To Be Designers curriculum is exciting, innovative and creative. Children will learn how to solve real and relevant problems through a variety of contexts following the process of Design - Make - Evaluate. This structure enables the children to think carefully about their choices when imagining and creating their designs. From the very beginning of the design process, the children will learn the technical knowledge and apply this into their work. After thoughtful planning, children then move onto the making stage and evaluate what works and what could be changed. The evaluation part is a crucial part of the design process. From reviewing the final plan to the final outcome, we encourage reflection along the way so that children can continually adapt and improve their product.
Many curriculum subjects will be linked to our Designer topics for example Maths, Science, Computing, History and Art. We aim to inspire children by linking their learning to the topics they are studying that term. We aim to enhance their current knowledge and encourage children to use their imaginations.
Each year, the children discover three design strands: Cooking, Food and Nutrition, mechanisms and building Structures. The children explore these strands building on knowledge they have learned in the previous year, deepening each child’s designer knowledge throughout their learning journey.
Our DT teaching meets the aims of the national curriculum, and ensures that all children at TPA are able to:
-
Developing the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
-
Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
-
Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
-
Understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
