Helping your Children at Home

Home Learning

We are determined that the home learning at TPA is linked to some of the barriers that children have to their learning in school. We want to make sure that what we are sending home is relevant to what they are doing in the classroom and is consistent across the school. Each week children in years 1 - 6 take home spellings and key number fact practice for their home learning.

The key number facts can be times tables, number bonds or any other key facts that the classteacher would like them to practice. They are generally be sent home on a Friday and their home learning books  come back into school on the following Thursday. The children are then be tested on what they have been practising and new spellings and number fact practice are put in their books.

We continue to encourage parents to read with their child at home as often as they can and at least 5 times a week. We ask parents to write up the reading that their child has done in their home reading diaries.

There are lots of ways that parents can help their children at home with their learning. Please click on the pages for 'English' and 'Maths' to see how you can support your child at home.

As well as English and maths learning we encourage children and their familes to try and have experiences that they can come into school and talk about. Please see the right hand side of the page for things we think that children should experience outside of school!
