Admissions

Please click on the tab to the right of the page for the school's Admissions Policy 2020 - 21 Admissions Policy 2021 - 22 and Admissions Policy 2022 - 23. Also please find Oversubscription Criteria for September 2021, 2022 and 2023.

This page and the subsequent policies and oversubscription criteria have been updated in July 2021 to be compliant with the Admissions Code which comes into force on September 2021, to expand upon the criteria giving priority to previously looked after children.

If you wish your child to join Tangmere Primary Academy you should apply to:

Pupil Admission Team,
Education Office South,
Centenary House,
Durrington Lane,
Worthing,
West Sussex, BN13 2QB.

Tel: 08450 751 007

A member of the team will consult with the Headteacher and Governors before making a decision regarding the application.

In common with other local primary schools, all children may be admitted at the beginning of the school year in which they will be five years of age. We consider each child as an individual and work with you and the early years setting your child attends in order to ensure the smoothest transfer possible.

Reception Admissions

Our admissions for Reception are still co-ordinated by West Sussex County Council admissions. Contact details are available by clicking on the West Sussex County Council icon on the left, or ring 03330 142 903 to speak to the admission department.

In Year Admissions

Applications for year groups other than the normal point of entry should be made directly to the school.

Please see application form on the right hand side of the page.

Completed forms should be returned directly to Tangmere Primary Academy, this can be done via email.  Application outcomes will be confirmed in writing no later than 15 school days from receipt of application.

If the number of applications for the school, for any year group, is more than the number of places available, the oversubscription criteria (as per our Admissions Policy) will be applied.

Admissions Criteria

From September 2014, our admissions criteria changed to be in line with local schools and are set out below. These are the arrangements the school will use for over-subscription in the case of in-year admissions. Parents of reception age children seeking a place will be ranked, in the case of over-subscription, using the criteria set out below.

  1. Any child with a statement of Special Educational Needs naming the school will automatically be admitted to a school, under section 324 of the Education Act 1996.
  2. Children in public care, and those who have been in care and have been subsequently adopted or have been made subject of a residence order or special guardianship, including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted
  3. Children of service personnel (UK Armed Forces) and children of school staff will be given priority.
  4. Children living in the catchment area but with brothers and sisters already in school and who will still be attending when the child starts (brothers and sisters may be half or step-siblings but must be living at the same address).
  5. Children living in the same catchment area.
  6. Children living outside the catchment area but with brothers and sisters already in school and who will still be attending when the child starts (brothers and sisters may be half or step siblings but must be living at the same address).
  7. Children living outside the catchment area.

Please see right hand side of the page for the school's catchment map.

All places in each category will be allocated with those closest to the school within that category having first allocation. All distances are supplied by West Sussex County Council Admissions Team.
