Harvest Festival

On Friday 4th October we celebrated this year’s Harvest Festival.  We welcomed Rich from Chichester Food Bank, who explained to us what the Food Bank is and how it is founded on Christian principles to help local people in crisis.

We learnt about how 1 in 5 people in the UK are living below the poverty line, and that since Chichester Food Bank opened in 2012 it has helped over 15,000 people/ families.

The children learnt that families can receive Red Food Bank Vouchers which they can take to the Food Bank in Chichester, where they will receive a food parcel to feed their family for 3 days and while they are there they can have tea & cake and someone to talk to who is also able to offer advice of other services that can support them at this difficult time.

Over the last few years Tangmere Primary Academy School Council have chosen to donate items for the Chichester Food Bank when collecting for Harvest and Christmas.  Rich informed us that so far we have donated food items with the equal weight of a killer whale’s heart! Yet again the families of TPA have generously donated a large about of tinned and packet food to support the Food Bank this Harvest- thank you  to all of those families that were able to donate.
