Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium has a wide number of aims:

  • To increase social mobility

  • To reduce the attainment gap between the highest and lowest attaining pupils nationally

  • To enable more pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to get to the top universities

The pupil premium is additional funding given to schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. The allocation of Pupil Premium is based on the number of pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years.  Schools also receive pupil premium funding for the following categories:

  • Any pupils of service personnel

  • Any pupils who have been looked after by the local authority for 1 day or more

  • Any pupils who have been adopted from care

  • Any pupils who have left care under:

    • a special guardianship order

    • a residence order or a child arrangement order

At TPA, we believe that it is our role to ensure that EVERY child achieves to the best of their ability and is supported and developed, regardless of their ability level and whether or not they are achieving the age related expectations. Our children matter to us and, together with Parents and Carers, we work to ensure that they gain the knowledge, skills and enriching experiences that allow them to access and succeed at the next stage of their education and go on to achieve successful, happy lives.  We monitor these interventions closely, ensuring that they are effective, and that children make the additional progress they need to make in order to catch up.  At Tangmere Academy, we believe that by directing the Pupil Premium funding in a variety of ways, we will realign the chances for all children to achieve as well as their peers and to enjoy the same breadth of experiences.

We have identified 5 key challenges to achievement among our disadvantaged pupils.

1 Reducing the attendance gap between PP and non-PP children.  Also improving the number persistence absence and punctuality.

2 Reduce the academic gap between PP and non- PP children across the curriculum especially within English and Maths.

3 Due to the demographic of our school communities and due to changes in teaching strategies, families have limited capacity to support learning at home, especially in maths.

4 Due to the diverse demographic of our school community, some families are unable to access enrichment activities which complement and support academic learning. This reduces the number of experiences for children resulting in reduced/ limited vocabulary and lack of understanding about the wider world.

5 As a school we are keen to build on the positive links with families built up throughout the pandemic. Our ACE Tutors programme further develops our home school links/ communication and parental engagement. As found within the ImpactEd research.
