Admissions

Admissions Policy

If you wish your child to join Tangmere Academy you should apply to:

Pupil Admission Team,
Education Office South,
Centenary House,
Durrington Lane,
Worthing,
West Sussex, BN13 2QB.

Tel: 08450 751 007

A member of the team will consult with the Headteacher and Governors before making a decision regarding the application.

In common with other local primary schools, all children may be admitted at the beginning of the school year in which they will be five years of age. We consider each child as an individual and work with you and the early years setting your child attends in order to ensure the smoothest transfer possible.

Nursery

Children are able to join our Nursery (Foundation Stage Class) after their 3rd birthday. They are currently able to attend for 15 hours per week. There is no charge as this covers the free time each child is permitted under the governments Nursery Education Policy. Prior to starting, the Foundation Stage staff will visit you in your home to find out those special things about your child which will help him or her settle in to our setting.

Reception Admissions

Our admissions for Reception are still co-ordinated by Pupil Administration Team. Contact details are available by clicking on the West Sussex County Council icon on the left.

Admissions Criteria

Our admissions criteria are the same as all West Sussex schools until September 2014. Preference for the Reception in-take and, in cases of oversubscription, other year groups for this year is given in this order:

1. Looked after children (children in public care) and previously looked after children

2. Children who need a place for compelling and exceptional social, psychological or medical grounds (SEN Statement)

3. Children who live in catchment with siblings at the school who will be there when they start

4. Children who live in the catchment

5. Children who live out of catchment with siblings at the school who will be there when they start

6. Children who live out of catchment

In Year Admissions

Admissions for year groups other than Reception are co-ordinated by the school. For all admissions we strongly advise a visit to the school to meet the Headteacher. Please phone the school office to book an appointment.

Class sizes are set at a maximum of 30 and, because of the high demand for school places, for all in-year admissions we may ask to see proof of residence. This can take the form of tenancy agreements or utility bills in the name of anyone with legal parental responsibility for the child/children.
